After the Battle
The battle left a total of 307 American casualties and approximatly 2,500 Japanese casualties. Four Japanese carriers and 1 cruiser were sunk with multiple others damaged, America lost 1 destroyer, 1 carrier, and around 100 airplanes with just a few more light damages. The battle was a crushing defeat and embarrassment for the Japanese. It took only about 5 minutes for 3 of the japanese carriers to be taken out. Before it they had complete control of the pacific and a fleet almost 3 times bigger than ours, the battle was like david vs. goliath. Now they were left crippled and severly angered. The biggest contributer to the battle was the information gathered about the attack by code breakers. If America didn't know the attack was coming Midway could have been easily taken and the rest of the Pacific fleet destroyed within months. The battle helped to even the score between Japan and America and ultimatley us on the offensive. Throughout the course of the war Japan lost a good number of more ships and ultimatly surrendered in 1945. It truley was a decisive battle and changed the coarse of the war.
